Engineering & Maintenance Manager – Springfield, MA

Description

A manufacturer of thermoformed and molded custom plastic packaging is seeking an Engineering & Maintenance Manager with excellent communication skills and ability to stay focused in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.  The position involves leading the maintenance and engineering processes for plastic molding and thermoforming equipment, tooling, and facilities to achieve continuous improvement in operational performance as well as complying with all applicable regulatory agencies.  The Engineering & Maintenance Manager will also manage new additions and modifications to the facility, grounds and equipment in such a way that they comply with GMPs, SQF requirements and all safety regulations.

The company offers an annual salary in the $90,000 to $99,000 range.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in plastic molding and/or thermoforming in a high volume, process manufacturing environment including managing both engineering and maintenance.
  • Experience must include a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.

Second Shift Foreman Position Requirements:

  • Startup machines after set-up.
  • Ensure production information is strictly adhered to (raw material types, quantities, packaging, etc.).
  • Fine tune machines.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees and company property.
  • Security systems.
  • Mechanical skills to troubleshoot and process variables.
  • General personnel responsibilities.
  • Knowledge in and ability to read electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic blueprints.
  • Knowledge of blow molding injection blow molding process, and polymer behavior preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of blow mold and injection blow mold construction preferred.

The Quality Manager is responsible for; managing, planning, coordinating, and directing a quality control program designed to ensure continuous product of products that meet or exceed customer requirements.

Essential Quality Functions

  • Direct inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, equipment, and products.
  • Perform mold validations and process capability.
  • Perform capability studies to determine process stability.
  • Serve as ISO  9000management representative and conduct ISO audits.
  • Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine product standards.
  • Conduct CpK analysis and develop improvement projects to insure products have CpK’s of at least 1.0 for all products.

The Blow Molding Industrial Engineer will also support the manufacturing facilities to aid in root cause problem solving for processes, equipment or quality issues . In addition, the Blow Molding Industrial Engineer will be responsible for:

•Working effectively inside a cross functional Core Team assigned to develop new business awards and carry the new business into a production setting by using the APQP process.

•Effectively utilizing tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, Process Flow, GD&T, ACAD, Lean Manufacturing, and Project Management to secure robust interactions between product design and manufacturing solutions.

•Supporting and /or leading development of specifications for manufacturing solutions, processes or equipment.

•Supporting the validation of equipment design and construction compliancy to process requirements.

•Providing manufacturing technical expertise and input to review new product program opportunities to help evaluate feasibility.

•Assisting and supporting continuous improvement events such as Team Feasibility and Lean Manufacturing Tool Workshops for new business development and current production.

•Assisting Product Engineering personnel in evaluating new product designs for manufacturability. Help plan and coordinate the appropriate use of tools such as FEA & CFD simulation to support manufacturability.

•Working with Product Engineering to develop and perform the necessary testing of new product designs to develop an understanding of sensitivity to the manufacturing solutions.

•Providing support, when required, to the manufacturing facilities to aid in root cause problem solving for processes, equipment and quality issues.

•Planning and performing required R&D to develop and understand viable manufacturing solutions for new product manufacturing requirements.

•Utilizing documented best practices and lessons learned to ensure common approach to trouble shooting process problems and solving machinery issues.

Requirements
•Must have experience processing and setting up extrusion blow molding machines, e.g. Bekum, Uniloy, Fisher, etc.
•Must be able to work 12 hour sifts, 3 days or nights on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off.
