Control Systems Engineer – Newark, NJ

The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and developing electrical equipment and PLC/HMI software programs. This position analyzes user requirements and procedures to identify the system components and develop the design and functional specifications for the automation systems. In addition, this position provides support throughout the manufacturing of the electrical systems they have designed.

In addition to an annual salary in the $85,000 to $100,000 the company offers very competitive benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for Electrical and Control Systems

  • Participates in engineering review of quotes that include automation
  • Participates in engineering review of sales order including automation
  • Select, specify, and design the installation of measurement devices to measure and analyze physical and chemical properties
  • Select, specify, and design the installation of control element devices to manipulate flows, energy, positions, speeds and other variables
  • Design and install wiring to reliably communicate information between measurement and control element devices and control equipment
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, test, repair, and improve sensing, measurement, and actuation devices
  • Designs include the basic layout of wiring and sizing of power, electrical and control cabinets
  • Designs include specifications of the hardware and software to be used in the system
  • Perform safety and regulatory compliance assessments by identifying key issues in order to comply with applicable standards, policies and regulations such as, UL, CE, ANSI, ISA, NEMA
  • Define the data structure layout and data flow model considering the volume and type of data involved in order to provide specifications for hardware selection and software development
  • Select the physical communication media, network architecture, and protocols based on data requirements
  • Develop a functional description of the automation solution (control scheme, alarms, HMI, reports)
  • Perform the detailed design for the project by converting the engineering and system design into purchase requisitions, drawings, panel designs, and installation details
  • Maintain product program data base by writing computer programs and keeping a revision log of all programs and revisions
  • Train Process Technicians and Electricians in proper construction and implementation of electrical and automation components and their use

  • Testing new systems and making design changes if needed
  • Producing necessary design reports and documentation
  • Assisting in the manufacture of new electrical systems

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field; MBA preferred
  • Active working knowledge of 2D and 3D design software, engineering drawings, creation and interpretation of specifications
  • Good computer skills and expert data analysis
  • 10 years of progressively responsible work experience in electrical engineering with last 5 being in programming Allen Bradley PLC’s and HMI interfaces and automated control systems
  • Experience in project management and team facilitation
  • Experience in furnace manufacturing or other industrial equipment manufacturing
  • Proven track record in helping to design and commercialize industrial equipment
