Plastic Extrusion Manufacturing Engineer – Minneapolis, MNPosted by Jim Heilman on June 22, 2021, under Engineering, Extrusion Molding, JobsA small but rapidly growing company has an exciting opportunity for a Plastic Extrusion Manufacturing Engineer to support that growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for thermoplastic elastomer and polyurethane plastic profile extrusion processes, profile die designs and all ancillary equipment. In addition, the Plastic Extrusion Manufacturing Engineer will trouble shoot profile and coextrusion process issues, develop tooling designs, and implement quality, productivity, and safety improvements. PLASTIC EXTRUSION MANUFACTURING ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish processes for all extrusion products and document setups. Improve existing extrusion processes for part quality, cosmetic issues and cycle time reduction. Provide direction for selection of new equipment including extruders, extrusion processing equipment, and automation. Design profile and coextrusion tooling and lead the placement of the tooling into production for new programs and replacement dies. Build a tool maintenance shop and maintenance program for maintaining dies and sizers. Analyze new part designs for processability, throughput, and resolve potential issues. Work with production team to design fixtures and cell improvements for productivity, quality, and ergonomic factors. Design and build automated solutions in assembly and pack stations. Repair existing automation and upgrade obsolete components.EDUCATION: BS in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years related plastic profile extrusion experience.SKILLS/KNOWELDGE/ABILITIES: Must have technical knowledge and hands-on experience with thermoplastic extrusion, die design, and plastic processing. Must have strong mechanical skills. Requires strong organizational skills, close attention to detail and the ability to effectively handle multiple, competing priorities. Independently driven. Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to efficiently summarize information in an effective manner. Must understand data and data validation and have the skill to use data in order to make educated business decisions. Must be able to work independently as well as within a variety of teams. Must be highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects. Proficient in Excel and SolidWorks (or some 3D modeling software). Experience with designing and building automation. Knowledge of secondary automation is desirable.
